Current News
At a public meeting on March 24, 2025, the Board of Commissioners approved the closure of the Housing Choice Voucher waiting list effective May 1, 2025. The list will remain closed until public notice is issued in accordance with 24 CFR 982.206 of the federal regulations. Applications will not be accepted after April 30, 2025. Families currently on the Housing Choice Voucher waiting list will remain on the list. No other Walla Walla Housing Authority waiting lists will be affected.
OPPORTUNITIES+ is a program that enables Housing Choice Voucher families to increase their earned income and reduce their dependency on welfare assistance and rental subsidies. The program offers local resources that help program participants obtain employment that will enable them to achieve economic independence. Some of the services coordinated through the program include childcare, transportation, education, job training, employment counseling, financial literacy, and homeownership counseling, among others. Participants are provided with an interest-bearing escrow account made up of the difference of the rent the family pays when entering the program and the increased rent that would be charged as the family’s earned income increases. For more information about this program, please contact Nikki Saunders at NikkiS@wallawallaha.org.
